The sixth episode of the third season opens with the opening of a sitcom from the 90s, starring Joker, who is a devoted family man, making fun of shows like Full House or Step by Step.
This orchestra maneuvers Joker, who seeks to become mayor of Gotham within the episode The killing Vote (subtle homage to the work of Alan Moore and Brian Bolland).
But that’s not all, since the lyrics of the song played by Joker is a tribute to the history of the villain in movie theaters.
subtle references
The song’s title is Wait Til They Get A Load Of Us, referring to one of Jack Nicholson’s Joker lines in 1989’s Batman (Wait ’til they get a load of me )
The first line of the song mentions “I used to think my life was a tragedy, but now I realize it’s a comedy,” which is a line from Joaquin Phoenix in Joker, the 2019 film directed by Todd Phillips.
The famous lines “Why so serious?” (Why so serious) and “I think we are destined to do this forever” (I think you and I are destined to do this forever) referred us to Heath Ledger’s performance as Joker in The Dark Knight.
Even one of the lines of the song “All it takes is one bad day” (All it takes is one bad day…) is a nod to The Killing Joke, the work that presents us with the origin of Joker according to Alan Moore and Brian Bolland.
The voice cast is headed by Kaley Cuoco (Penny in The Big Bang Theory series), Lake Bell, Diedrich Bader, Alan Tudyk, Rahul Kohli, Christopher Meloni, Tony Hale, Ron Funches, Wanda Sykes, Natalie Morales, Jim Rash, Giancarlo Esposito, Jason Alexander and JB Smoove.
The third season of Harley Quinn is now available through the digital platform HBO Max.
