In an unexpected turn of events, the American actor Ben Affleck ruled out the possibility of directing a project for the new DC universe led by James Gunn and Peter Safranwho recently became the presidents of DC Studios. Which is the reason? Read on to find out.
It was during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that Jennifer Lopez’s husband spoke about his future work and flatly denied that his plans include directing any project under the DC Extended Universe.
“I wouldn’t direct something for James Gunn at DC. Absolutely not. I have nothing against James Gunn. He’s a nice guy, I’m sure he’s going to do a great job. I just wouldn’t want to come in and lead the way they’re doing. I’m not interested in that“, he responded forcefully.
This statement comes just a few months after the filmmaker behind productions such as “The Suicide Squad” and “Peacemaker” revealed that he had met with Ben Affleck to start negotiations on his possible foray as a director.
“I met with Ben yesterday precisely because he wants to direct and we want him to direct,” he said at the time. “We just have to find the right project,” he added. However, everything seems to indicate that the agreement could not come to fruition despite the desire of both parties to collaborate.
We cannot forget that Ben Affleck gave life to the iconic character of Batman in the DC Extended Universe during 2016 and continued to put on the cape for tapes such as “Suicide Squad” (2016), “Justice League” (2017), ” Zack Snyder’s Justice League” (2021) and “The Flash” (2022).
