With a career spanning three decades and dozens of hits behind him, the American rapper Snoop Dogg has established itself as one of the greatest exponents of Hip-Hop worldwide.
And it is that despite his “turbulent” beginnings, the famous managed to consolidate great themes that today are considered hymns of that musical genre. In fact, he has been so dedicated to his art that he does not discriminate places to give free rein to his pen and create songs from anywhere, including prison.
It should be noted that although today Snoop Dogg enjoys the fruits of his work, his first hits date back to when he spent a long period in prison for the crime of drug possession.
Such was the case with the song “Nothin’ but a ‘G’ Thang”which today is not only considered one of the most special within his repertoire, but also It is on the list of the best songs of all time according to Rolling Stone magazine.
We cannot forget that this song is part of Dr. Dre’s first solo record material, “The Chronic”, after separating from the NWA group.
According to Dr. Dre himself, the only inconvenience that there was for the recording of the song was that at that time Snoop Dogg was in prison. However, the solution they found was for him to complete one of the preliminary versions of “Nothin’ but a ‘G’ Thang” from prison.
To do this, the celebrities agreed to a phone call in which the producer taped the telephone speaker to a microphone in the booth; that way Snoop’s verse was included. “You can hear the sounds of jail in the background,” Dre detailed in an interview years later.
Well, the effort was worth it, because almost 3 decades after this fact, Snoop Dogg is one of the most influential rappers in the world and together with his mentor Dr. Dre, he starred in the Super Bowl halftime show this 2022.
