many fans of Disney sometimes they wonder what they would be like if they lived inside one of his movies. Sometimes certain actors and singers are lucky enough to go through a transformation courtesy of the studio’s character design department and see what they would look like in their animated version.
Shakira snuck into ‘Zootopia’ as the singer Gazellewhich gave her her own animated character modeled after her…although she managed to get some much-needed tweaks made to her look.
Hips don’t lie!
The singer has a minor role in the film, although she performs the main theme of ‘Zootopia’ and Gazelle can be seen several times being a true superdiva. Gazelle has a very distinctive character design, but when he saw Shakira’s first designs, he thought she needed more curves.
“We wanted to make Gazelle, the character I play, a little more similar to me. So they asked me what I thought I should have and I said… ‘Put more meat on her bones, right? Poor thing! needs more hips!” said the singer.
The creative team liked the proposal and made some alternations to the character of Gazelle, who indeed ended up having wider hips. According to Shakira, making her character curvy was important to her, as she found many similarities between herself and Gazelle.
“They listened to my suggestion and definitely gave her more curves,” Shakira explained. “When they showed me Gazelle, my character in the film, I felt very identified with her because she is very stubborn, like me, she has many traits of my own personality.”
