We have had two episodes of ‘The house of the dragon’ (House of the Dragon) and we can assure you that we are “living” with this new HBO foray into the fantastic universe of George R.R. Martin. This fantastic story of palace plots and stab wounds between Targaryens whose tragic end we already know.
And it is that taking into account that the current series is immersed in one of the most important historical events of the History of Westeros and the Seven Kingdoms, The Dance of Dragons, it is logical that we already know certain things in advance. So much so that seven years ago an episode of ‘Game of Thrones’ told us how it all ended. By the way, spoilers from here on out.
History of Westeros
It is precisely ‘Dance of Dragons’, the ninth episode of season 5 of ‘Game of Thrones’. In one of the sequences Shiren (Kerry Ingram) is reading precisely about the great civil war of the Targaryens:
“It is the story of the struggle between Rhaenyra Targaryen and her own brother Aegon for control of the Seven Kingdoms. They both believed they deserved the Iron Throne. When the people took sides with one or the other, the fight divided the kingdom in two. Brothers against brothers, dragons against dragons. By the time it was over, thousands had died. It was a disaster for the Targaryens too. They could never recover
A war awaits you death to one of the contenders. Something that Geoffrey (Jack Gleason) revealed to us with his usual tact in a scene from the third season:
“Rhaenyra Targaryen was killed by her brother or rather her dragon. She ate it while her son watched. What was left of her is buried in the crypts.”
In ‘The House of the Dragon’ we have not yet seen this war as such, since we are still in the previous years. Already from the sixth episode we will begin to see clearly the tensions between one side (the greens) and the other (the blacks); Aspirations to Aegon’s throne (Tom Glynn-Carney), the king’s first son and his stepsister Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy), named heiress.
A confrontation that will break out in that war and that, predictably, will occupy part of the end of season 1 and the recently approved season 2. The development is already in the hands of Ryan Condal and we trust that, even if we know the outcome, we will enjoy the trip.
