In 1987 Adrian Lyne directed one of the most remembered films of the decade. Starring Michael Douglas and Glenn Close, the psychological thriller garnered six Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Lead Actress, and four Golden Globes.
It became a cinematic landmark number one in theaters for six weeks in the United Statesten weeks in the United Kingdom, and in Spain, one of the premieres with the best grossing of 1988 behind The last Emperor and Women at the edge of a nervous attack. The film showed spite and revenge like never before. In it Dan, an exemplary family man, has a torrid affair with Alex. After infidelity to her wife, he tries to return to normal forgetting what happened, but Alex does not accept that Dan has treated her as an object of hers.
We talk about Fatal Attractionwhich over the years has become an essential of the erotic thriller genre, also called psychosexual thriller. Like movies like Basic Instinct either Nine weeks and a half, this film opted for sensuality and eroticism, but it became much more thanks to the wonderful performance of Glenn Close in the character of Alex Forrest, who became with him the acclaimed “villain” of Hollywood. She though she wasn’t just a psycho.
Close herself explained at the 2017 San Sebastián festival that, after a few shows with the public, the producers decided to change the ending. With the change, she also changed the meaning of her character. She “she was someone with a deep emotional hole who suddenly turned into a deranged shrew. For two weeks I refused to shoot the new conclusion. I fought not to betray Alex Forrest, who was being devoured on screen and off it by machismo from Hollywood”.
But we have not come to tell you curiosities about Fatal Attraction (there are many) but to talk to you about the miniseries that SkyShowtime has just released and that is inspired by this film. In fact, and as the platform itself explains, this eight-episode series “reinterprets the classic psychosexual thriller of the eighties”.
