Week after week ‘The Last of Us’ continues to insist on making us cry our eyes out and on continuing to show that, in addition to being a magnificent series, treats with special devotion the original material on which it is based. With the sixth chapter of her, she has achieved the first by adapting one of the most intense scenes in the video game — “And I sure as Hell ain’t your dad” —, and the last by looking at her second playable installment with a couple of fantastic details.
A future ally
We already talked about the first of them this afternoon, and it is none other than Dina’s potential presence, Ellie’s partner in ‘The Last of Us – Part II’, during the scene in which Joel and Ellie have a feast after their arrival in Jackson. But ‘Family’ —that’s how the episode is titled— hides another easter egg that connects with the second seasonwhich will bring the extraordinary sequel to the Naughty Dog title to the small screen.
The wink in question happens during the tour of the settlement guided by Maria and Tommy, in which Joel and Ellie go through the stables. In addition to a herd of sheep, the Jackson facility has a good number of horses including a beautiful foal that attracts the attention of the teenager. After asking about him, Maria reveals that the animal is called Shimmer.
In ‘The Last of Us – Part II’, Shimmer is Ellie’s personal horse, with whom he patrols Wyoming and with whom, later and with Dina, he will travel across the country until they reach Seattle, where they will suffer an accident with a mine that leaves Shimmer mortally wounded. Hopefully in the second season of the Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann show better luckbecause we are going to run out of tears at this rate.
