Authorities in Chiapas, Mexico, reported that a pitbull dog was about to rip off the arm of an alleged criminal who entered his house to steal. Friends and relatives of the thief called for the animal to be euthanized, claiming it was a danger to the community. In addition, they asked for a large sum for the damages caused.
The case gained popularity on social networks and Internet users and animal groups came out in defense of the dog, whom, incidentally, they named “Hero of Copaya”.

The events occurred on October 7, when a man identified as José Arbey tried to enter a house located in the municipality of Copoya, Chiapas, Mexico.
Max, guardian and pet of said house, noticed José’s presence and started to bite his left arm with such intensity that he was about to detach it. After the attack, José was taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation and his health is reported as stable.
The case did not take long to reach social networks, where it was reported that relatives and friends of the alleged thief asked that Max be sacrificed. Immediately, groups in favor of animal life and Internet users expressed their support for the dog with the hashtags #DogVader and #ElHeroedeCopoya.
This puppy prevented the robbery of his house in Copoya in Tuxtla Gutiérrez.
Today he is under observation of the law.

On October 10, Alfredo Ruiz Coutiño, director of Protection against Sanitary Risks of the City Council of Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, stated that due to the events, Max will not be sacrificed. However, he will remain under observation for 10 days to rule out that he has rabies.
In addition, he reaffirmed that in the event that someone threatens the dog’s health, there are administrative sanctions that range from economic fines to administrative arrests.
