The Mexican boxer Saul ‘Canelo’ Álvarez made his debut in the seventh art with the movie Creed III, the boxing drama that is leading the box office in the United States.
Last weekend he raised $58.7 million in the North American country and $41.8 million in the international market, of which three million have been generated in Mexico.
This makes Creed III the best sports movie opening of all time and the best launch in the franchise, beating the first installment by 109% and its sequel by 25%, both directed by Steven Caple Jr.

Officially, the exact figure has not been revealed, but many American media outlets have revealed that the Mexican boxer received close to a million dollars for his appearance with his wife Fernanda Gómez in the film.
Among the promotion of the film, Michael B. Jordan went as far as joking with an actual fight between him and Álvarez.
In addition to starring in this film, Michael B. Jordan is the director, and for this reason he has stated that “there have been a lot of fights in the Rocky and Creed franchise, and I wanted to put my own spin on it, you know? How to make these fights different… All those anime that I watched growing up, there is an inherent spirit in them in the way they fight.”
This is because he is an anime fan and was inspired by productions of that branch such as Hajime no Ippo, Megalo Box, Naruto, My Hero Academia and Dragon Ball, for this film, his behind-the-scenes debut.
