Bittersweet afternoon for fans of the DC series, as The CW announces the cancellation of Naomi but the Gotham Knights pilot was approved.
The CW bar rearrangement continues, and the news coming through Deadline is that Naomi won’t be back for season two but we will see Gotham Knights.
Two days after the Ava DuVernay series for DC concluded its first season, it was learned that The CW will not continue with the Naomi proposal, inspired by a character created by Brian Michael Bendis. The same outlet says it has information that it is talking to other outlets about continuing the story.
“While she was getting a lot of critical acclaim… Naomi had to constantly struggle to find an audience, especially on the internet. The series suffered several breaks since its debut on January 11, including for the Beijing Olympics and for consecutive weeks in early March.
Naomi is the third DC series to be cut by The CW in recent weeks, following Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow.
Gotham will be well protected
Despite Naomi’s misfortune, The CW greenlit the Gotham Knights pilot to become a series. The DC character-based pitch is written by Batwoman’s creative trio of Chad Fiveash, James Stoteraux and Natalie Abrams.
“The story begins after the murder of Bruce Wayne, with his rebellious adopted son forging an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies when they are all framed for the murder of the Caped Crusader. As the city’s most wanted criminals, this gang of renegade misfits must fight to clear their names. But in a Gotham without the Dark Knight to protect it, the city becomes the most dangerous in its history. However, hope comes from the most unexpected of places, as this team of mismatched fugitives will become their next generation of saviors, known as the Knights of Gotham.”
