They also seized other works of art, including graphic works by Joan Miró, also a Spaniard, luxury watches, and high-value coins and bills. The artworks — two dark rural landscapes drawn on brown paper — were authenticated by the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation, which owns the rights to the late painter’s works, according to police.
The Catalan police accuse the three brothers of having robbed homes in the Barcelona region of works of art and collections of coins and other antiquities. The police arrested two other people for receiving stolen items.
The three alleged thieves were released on bail prior to trial, while the other two were released pending trial.
Along with the drawings by Dalí, the five works by Miró —which are still undergoing authenticity checks— and two works by the painter Paco Sola, the Mossos seized 55 luxury watches, silver and gold pens, jewelery and several collections of coins and banknotes from different times and countries. The objects are suspected to come from a series of robberies carried out in recent months.
