‘Babylon’, Damien Chazelle’s new marvel, portrays the excesses of Hollywood in the 20s. Margot Robbie herself revealed what do the actors consume when we see characters smoking or taking drugs.

There are not a few moments in which we see characters taking drugs in ‘Babylon’, starting with Nellie LaRoy herself, Robbie’s character in the film. Obviously, the actors are not using actual drugs on the set of these scenes but are looking for an alternative.
According to the actress, for drugs the usual thing is to use Vitamin B powder or baby laxative powder. Also used powdered sugar, in case it is a scene where they are not ingested. However, as Robbie points out, it hurts him to snort those fake drugs: “Yeah, it’s not nice.”
Fake tobacco is also used for when the characters have to smoke. The actress remembers that he smoked several fake cigarettes and thus have a hoarse voice for your character:
On set, we have cigarettes without nicotine. They’re herbal cigarettes but they’re horrible and they taste horrible.
‘Babylon’ is one of the great forgotten of the 2023 Oscar Awards, of which it has only scratched the nominations for Best Production Design, Best Costumes and Best Music. Furthermore, the film has failed commercially, grossing a total of $30,796,698 against its $78 million budget.
