The newspaper Jerusalem Post reported that a couple traveling from Tel Aviv, Israel, abandoned their baby at the airport after airport staff told them they could not board their flight unless they bought a ticket for their child. Apparently the parents weren’t willing to spend a dollar more than their budget and made a “simple” decision that shocked travelers and staff alike.
The employees weren’t immediately aware of the fact, so when they went to the counter to see what the passengers had forgotten, they were really shocked, finding out it was a little baby.
Almost immediately, the corresponding security protocols were activated to find the parents, who were forced to return for their son. In addition, the authorities were called, who arrested the parents on charges of omission of care.
We had never seen anything like it. We couldn’t believe what we were seeing. A couple with Belgian passports arrived for a Ryanair flight at Terminal One without a ticket for the baby. The couple was also late for the flight after the flight’s check-in counters closed. They left the baby and went through the security control of the terminal to get to the boarding gate.
According to airport manager Ryanair, parents of the child can pay $30 for a seat and also have the option of buying a separate seat for the child at a standard adult rate.
At the moment, the reason why the parents refused to pay for the minor’s ticket is unknown and it is not known if they were under the influence of any illegal substance. What is a fact is that the baby is safe and sound.
