Don’t Miss: The Sandman Features a Two-Part Bonus Chapter
As is well known, this first season was inspired by the first two arcs of the stories published by Vertigo, such as Preludes and Nocturnes, and The Doll’s House.
To the surprise of the fans, the production of The Sandman surprises us with an additional episode, with which the first season concludes, which already covers the third Dreamland arc.
What are the stories in the new episode of The Sandman about?
The first story told is A Dream of A Thousand Cats, a story that appeared in the comics in The Sandman #18 (August 1990) and is the first animated episode of this series.
Featuring voices from the likes of James McAvoy and Neil Gaiman himself, this plot recounts how cats see life and the revelation that humans were once their servants.
While the second story, which is in live-action format, adapts Calliope, a story that was published in The Sandman #17 (July, 1990), where a muse is kidnapped by a writer, who suffers from a creative block.
But this muse is a friend of Morpheus, who has a personal issue with the kidnappers.
The Sandman follows in the footsteps of Morpheus, the God of sleep, and his impact on the world, as he tries to right the cosmic and human mistakes he made during his existence.
The result is a rich blend of modern myth and dark fantasy in which contemporary fiction, historical drama and legend seamlessly intertwine.
