In January 2023, as SMASH reported to you on time, James Gunn announced the official start of Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters of the DC Universe with Superman Legacy, a film that the co-chairman of DC Studios wrote and will direct.
In an interview with Variety, Gunn pointed out that the search for the protagonist of Superman: Legacy has already begun, a process that will be complicated.

“It’s tough, but we’re looking, we’ve got good options, something I’m excited about”.
Gunn made clear the characteristics that whoever is chosen to carry the mantle of the Man of Tomorrow must meet, a character who exalted the careers of Christopher Reeve and recently Henry Cavill.
“It has to be someone who has all the humanity that Superman has, even though he’s also an alien, it has to be someone with the kindness and compassion that Superman has, it’s someone you want to give you a hug”.
While James Gunn has been known to choose to work with people who have collaborated on his previous projects, the filmmaker has ruled out his good friend, Chris Pratt as the new Superman.
“It’s not Chris Pratt… if he was a few years younger, maybe”.
Superman: Legacy will be inspired by the Grant Morrison and Frank comic Quitely All-Star: Superman, and its premiere is scheduled for July 11, 2025.
