“With regret, we must tell you that 1899 will not be renewed. We would have loved to end this incredible adventure with a second and third season as we did with Dark. But sometimes things don’t turn out as you expected. That’s life, “says the post on Instagram.
“We know that this will disappoint millions of fans that the show has. But we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being part of this wonderful adventure. We love you. Never forget it,” said the creatives of the project.
Released in November 2022, 1899 is the story of a ship of immigrants bound for New York and in which strange events begin to take place. Due to its theme, the characters’ dialogues are in several languages, such as Spanish, English, French and Polish. The cast includes Emily Beecham, Aneurin Barnard, Andreas Pietschmann and Miguel Bernardeau.
During some previous interviews, Odar and Friese had mentioned that they already had part of the story planned for future seasons of the sci-fi series.
“We always like to have an ending before we start. We want to know where we’re going. We’re moving forward in a story and we want to know how it’s going to play out at the end. In the middle there may be some looser ideas. And as we go through the process, ideas can change position,” Friese told The Hollywood Reporter in November, in the weeks of its premiere.
The program was placed in the Top 10 most watched series in its opening week. It reached the second position, behind the expected fifth season of The Crown, which premiered a week earlier on the streaming platform. reported Variety.
