Johnny Depp sued Amber Heard for $50 million, accusing her of defaming him with an op-ed he wrote on Washington Post in 2018. Finally, we have the verdict of the trial.
The trial lasted six weeks, during which time evidence and witnesses of each of those involved were shown, who provided details about the marriage and relationship of the actors.
In the verdict that began its broadcast at 3:00 pm (United States time) the actor was not present due to his work schedule. On the other hand, Heard appeared with his legal team to listen to the jury’s deliberations.
Based on the evidence presented by each of those involved, the jury has reached its verdict, estimating that Heard did defame Depp with the publication of the article on domestic violence, which is why he must pay compensation of 15 million dollars to the actor, five of them for punitive damages. However, the actor will pay her ex two million, as it was also proven that he had defamatory acts against her.
At the reading of the verdict, the jury agreed with Depp and declared that Heard defamed her ex-husband in the article published in The Washington Postt. In addition, he assured that the actor provided sufficient evidence to show that Heard’s statement is totally false.
