When she took over as sports director of América, Claudia Carrión was only the second woman in that position within the Mexican women’s competition.
life and style (L&S): How is a contract in América Femenil?
It starts from knowing the needs of the team. We see a whole map of players who meet the profile or conditions. Also to know a little about the values of the players, to know their surroundings. Then we approach them to find out if their objectives coincide with those of the club. If that works, we move on to economic negotiation.
L&S: What do you miss the most about being a player?
All. Being a player gave me many life lessons. Values, friendship, I got a family, many friends… I miss the adrenaline of playing a good role on the pitch, of hitting the ball.

L&S: Is the Liga MX Femenil the best in Latin America?
Yes, because of the quality of the soccer players. For all the infrastructure there is, not only for the clubs, but for the competition itself. The transmissions of the matches, the opening of the stadiums… Of course there are issues to improve and that are worked on day by day. We have our finger on the line and we are working to improve those aspects.
L&S: What would your life be like without soccer?
All my life has been related to football, I can’t imagine my life without it. If soccer did not exist, I would invent it.
L&S: What is your sports cabal?
During my time as a player, I did have several cabals. Always wear wristbands, the same socks, shin guards, the same clean shoes… He did have a ritual. In this position, I try to avoid them. So far I don’t have one.
