These days anime ‘Sword Art Online’ has been celebrating its tenth anniversary. the novels of Reki Kawahara we’ve been given years and years of material, between the main series, spin-offs, more light novels and their adaptations, and the movies, of course.
‘Sword Art Online Progressive: Scherzo of a Dark Dusk’ premiered in Japan at the end of October and has managed to snatch ‘One Piece Film Red’ from the top spot at the box office. And to celebrate this success, a new trailer has already been released with some of the most powerful moments of the film.
Although there is still a long way to go
‘Scherzo of Deep Night‘ covers the fourth volume of Nawahara’s series, and although it skips certain events, it continues the arc of ‘Sword Art Online Progressive: Aria of a Starless Night’, which was released in 2021.
The bad news is that for now there are no plans for the sequel to ‘Sword Art Online Progressive’ to be released internationally. Taking into account that the previous film has not arrived in Spain, and that simply being able to watch the anime series in streaming legally is a bit impossible, the truth is that things are not looking very good.
Secondly, It doesn’t look like ‘Sword Art Online Progressive: Scherzo of a Dark Dusk’ is going to mark the end of the franchise at all.since to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the anime it has been officially announced that there is already another film in the works.

Too much information about the project has not yet been confirmed beyond the fact that it is “a completely new and original film”, so it is very possible that it does not take the novels as a basis. It hasn’t been confirmed to be an animated film either, so perhaps the franchise of ‘Sword Art Online’ is planning to take a new direction to get into the field of live action for his new movie, as they already promised years ago from Netflix.
