The small emirate of 11,571 km² is expected to receive more than a million visitors, in addition to its 2.9 million inhabitants, between November 20 and December 18. The first two weeks will be the most critical, with more than 350 thousand fans some days.
“Solutions” have been found “to reach the stadiums” and “for daily activities,” said the head of transportation for the Supreme Committee, Abdulaziz Al-Mawlawi, at a press conference.
“Now, it is the responsibility of the fans to take advantage of all the advantages of the World Cup“, he added.
The organizers recommend residents to use their car to go to the stadium and visitors to take advantage of common transport, free for those with tickets for the match.
During the tournament, the metro (with three lines that can reach five of the eight stadiums) will be open between 06:00 and 03:00 every day except Friday (weekly rest day), which will start at 09:00: 00.
Bus traffic will be densified. In addition to the 800 who carry out their daily service between 04:00 and 23:00, 2,300 will link the stadiums with the nerve centers of the capital Doha, such as the airports, some accommodations and the main ‘fan zones’.
Three thousand official taxis and limousines will be available, as well as VTC.
The souk (market) and promenade areas, where the main “fan zones” are locatedwill be closed to circulation.
On one of Doha’s main highways, a line will be reserved for buses, taxis, and medical and official vehicles. Those who take it without authorization will risk being fined 500 Qatari riyals (141.3 euros, 137.2 dollars or 2,752 Mexican pesos).
