Johnny Depp he sued his ex-wife Amber Heard for defamation due to an opinion piece she wrote for the Washington Post in 2018, in which he discussed his experience as an alleged victim of domestic abuse. Although the actor was never named in the text, her lawyers argued that the publication implied that he was violent with her during her relationship, something that he fiercely denied.
The process has gone around the world, and Discovery+ will premiere a two-part special titled “Johnny vs Amber: The US Trial” at the end of September.which will reveal some details about the actor’s life, as well as various scenes from the case.
The first preview, which was released this Wednesday, shows images of the courtroom where the former couple met to discuss their tumultuous marriage, with Depp’s lawyers – among them Camille Vasquez Y benchew– sharing their view of the case. “It’s easy to look at this case and think that these are two celebrities, with a lot of money, who had a really horrible relationship,” Vasquez told the camera. “But this is a man’s life.”
The first of the two parts of the docuseries will show the childhood and problems with drugs and alcohol of Johnny Deppwhile the second will focus on Heard’s account, including her accusations of sexual assault throughout their romance and the hugely negative reception it had on social media while the process was underway.
After a long six-week trial – which was broadcast live on Youtube to millions of people around the world – the jury agreed with Depp and awarded him just over $10 million of the $50 million he was asking for in damages. For her part, Amber received $2 million of the $100 million countersuit following an indictment. He has since launched an appeal, changing his legal team and preparing new lawyers because he cannot pay the amount.
