Every so often the poor conditions of artists and workers in the anime industry are in the news again, starting with endless hours and low wages. Correcting this situation (or at least improving it) seems to be the goal of JOENa new company dedicated to anime that arises from the union of several industry giants.
A new titan in the world of anime
It has been officially confirmed that anime studios CloverWorks and Wit Studio have allied with aniplex and the publisher Shueisha to found JOEN, a company dedicated to the production and distribution of anime.
Although no ongoing project has yet been confirmed, JOEN aims to plan and produce television anime series, anime films, and animation shorts. Instead of entrusting the entire process to a single production company, from this new company they have the objective of creating “the best production routes” for the creators of CloverWorks and Wit Studio.
Not only that, another of the company’s objectives is to create orn better business model for anime studios so that profits are distributed in a more equitable way between “the team, the creators, and everyone involved in the animation studio.” In other words, that those who are directly responsible for the creation of our favorite anime have better salary conditions.
Although CloverWorks and Wit Studio have initially been started as the main production engines for JOEN’s anime, the company also plans to collaborate with other studios in the future.
These two studios have already collaborated together on the production of ‘Spy x Family’ and the experiment seems to have worked out great, so with the creation of JOEN officially confirmed we can look forward to new titles ahead.
The creation of JOEN is a titan to be reckoned with in the anime industry, not only in anime production but also in terms of distribution. aniplex It is also a major anime company and has been involved in the production and distribution of series such as ‘Kimetsu no Yaiba’ and ‘Fullmetal Alchemist’. Also, don’t forget that it belongs to Sony, who now also owns Crunchyroll and Funimation, so it has all the tools you’d need for international distribution.
And of course, we cannot forget the Shueisha, which is one of the largest Japanese publishers and has published many of the great manga series in history. We still don’t know how the creation of JOEN will affect the publisher’s anime licenses, but it is certainly a big claim to consider.
