Twenty years ago ‘Daria’ ended but it is still in the hearts of many animation lovers. MTV, which is perhaps overvaluing the popularity of the series in 2022, has decided to go for a Daria shared universe with multiple spin-offs, series and movies. The first to come to the fore will be ‘Jodie’which was announced as a series for Comedy Central but will finally be a film whose fate has not yet been confirmed, although due to its idiosyncrasies it is inevitable to think of Paramount+.
The return of Porculio
Although ‘Jodie’ is a spin-off of ‘Daria’, we must not forget that originally this it was a spin-off from ‘Beavis and Butthead’, which, by the way, will now also have a second film, ‘Beavis & Butthead do the universe’, at Paramount+. In the style of what the streaming service is doing with ‘South Park,’ MTV wants to become a movie producer originals. We will see.
It was a rather secondary character, so you may not have her in mind, but Jodie Landon she was one of Daria’s few real friends and class president at Lawndale High. In the film she will not have grown at a natural rate: the character will jump from generation X to Z and will be an intern at Firstfinity, a technology company. Tracee Ellis Ross (‘Black-ish’) will voice the protagonist, but she will not be the only one known.
Pamela Adlon (‘Better things’) or William Jackson Harper (‘The good place’) will accompany Tracee Ellis Ross in a film that it was originally called ‘Jodie and Daria’, but in which it seems that the second part has been dropped from the equation. You may be wondering if this means that the arrival of SkyShowtime will make ‘Daria’ and ‘Beavis and Butthead’ available… but if I had to bet, I’d say is not one of the priorities. Excuse me!
