They have returned. Kimberly, Bela, Leighton and Whitney start new “four” and they return to their fun somewhat student adventures and very loving and sexual with season 2 of ‘The sex life of college girls’ (Sex Lives of College Girls), which arrives today on HBO Max with two of its ten episodes.
The first thing these new episodes tackle is the fallout from the previous season’s finale; as they return from vacation and face the Christmas season. The problems continue and the most immediate are that, on the one hand, Kimberly needs to find a way to pay for college.; on the other, they have been banned from all sorority parties.
Comedy comeback NOW
If we think about it, good “college” comedy is not usually lavished much and ‘The sexual life of university students’ falls squarely into the expected topics but, just like Mindy Kaling does in ‘I never’ as a series for adolescents and institutes, are the nuances and sensitivities that its main allies unfold before our eyes.
that, that already says a lot about the great work of Kaling and his partner Justin Noblecould be left in the water but for an impressive and charming cast (Pauline Chalamet, Amrit Kaur, Reneé Rapp and Alyah Channelle Scott) who manage to give their characters a deeper layer.
Although they continue to be the same crazy people as always, they see themselves growing and maturing in the face of events. Faced with these situations of sexism, racism, classism even with those who are living day to day. The key is that, within their somewhat archetypal characteristics, they are written as if they were not.
A feeling of repetition
I admit that, although I really wanted to see this season 2, I’ve had a certain feeling of déjà vu with her. A bit like seeing the same thing, not so much because of the things that happen but because of how the stories unfold and the characters react. This translates to a certain drop in somewhat hackneyed schemes.
In the background, this denotes that the writers have found that comfortable point and stupendous that all comedy needs and from here they are shooting. This makes the series work quite well on the one hand. On the other, it also leaves you wanting more, to go a little to the next level.
Which is not to say that season 2 of ‘The Sex Life of College Girls’ is not enjoyed, quite the contrary. Still a terrific comedy, packed with great jokesgood physical comedy and wanting to be as classic in its approach as modern in its execution.
