From Asturias we like its people, its beaches, its nature, its charming villages. We like every corner of the province, but we have a special attachment to Oviedo, which, in addition to being the capital of Asturias, is a city with centuries of life and history.
Strolling through the city, getting lost in the old town, climbing Mount Naranco, entering the Cathedral, visiting Oviedo’s balcony and, of course, eating in one of its restaurants is something we would do on any getaway.
Luckily for you, we have selected our favorites so that you just have to sit down and enjoy the Asturian gastronomy that goes beyond the Fabada or the chub These are the best restaurants and cider houses to eat well in Oviedo without leaving you a fortune.
The Oviedo
This cider house is one of the most historic and crowded in Oviedo. As a house specialty they have Serafin-style roasted ham, the classic garlic chicken and the liver with onions, but any of its portions is finger-licking good.

Alterna Cider House
Although in 2019 it won silver in the championship for the best hamburger in Spain, we are not going to recommend it for that (although it is to die for), but for its more Asturian dishes. They have two cider houses in Oviedo, they have just opened the second one on Calle Rosal, and it is one of those “good, nice and cheap” sites that we like to find so much when we travel.

The Black Cat Cider House
In the historic center we find a classic cider house where we will find gluten-free options (such as these cakes) and Asturian tapas. It also has a daily menu for 11 euros and an extensive menu where we stayed with the cecina and goat cheese cachopo. Crazy.

Cider House Tierra Astur Grill
It is in one of the areas with the most cider houses in Oviedo, the busy Calle Gascona. They have an economical and complete menu for 25 euros with which we will taste some of the most typical dishes such as the fabada, the escalopines al Cabrales or the rice pudding burnt, all washed down with cider and in a good atmosphere.

Gloria Oviedo
Nacho Manzano adds a personal touch to this market cuisine restaurant, in which traditional recipes always have a place. The restaurant is beautiful and the croquettes are especially recommended (yes, we are still looking for the best croquette in Spain), the aubergine a la llama, and the hake and its pil pil, which is to leave you speechless.

The Apple
We return to Gascona to find the best cachopo from Spain, because coming to Oviedo and not trying it would be a true gastronomic sacrilege. Made with PGI Asturian beef and goat cheese from the La Chivita cheese factory, this cachopo is blessed glory.

The best Asturian pot in Spain
A bonus: we cannot talk about Asturias without telling you where to eat the best Asturian stew in Spain: Leitariegos restaurant. It is an hour and a half from Oviedo but it is worth every kilometer to get there.
