The reign of ‘Avatar: The Water Sense’ at the US box office has come to an end. The film directed by James Cameron it held number 1 for seven weeks, but has failed to do so for the eighth time. The honor of dethroning the sequel to ‘Avatar’ has gone to ‘Knock on the door’, the new feature film by M.Night Shyamalan.
an agonizing victory
Of course, it cannot be said that the data from ‘Knock on the door’ is dazzling, since this weekend it has accumulated $14.2 million, somewhat less than initially expected. In fact, it wasn’t even the movie that sold the most tickets this week, as that honor went to ’80 for Brady’.
’80 for Brady’ is a comedy about the Superbowl starring Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno and Sally Field. Distributed by Paramount, the studio came up with a curious strategy to encourage more people to come see it: lower the usual ticket price. In this way, 1.3 million viewers came to see it -which translates into revenue of 12.5 million-, while ‘Knock on the door’ remained at 1.1.
Thank you to all who made @KnockAtTheCabin the number one film this weekend! I am pinching myself that this is the seventh time this has happened to me. This is the fourth in a row with @UniversalPics. Much love to James Cameron, he’s a hero to me. Glad to be in theaters with you

For his part, ‘Avatar: The Sense of Water’ already shows clear signs of exhaustion, because this weekend he barely added another 10.8 million dollars, an amount that has only allowed him to reach third place. Curiously, ‘Avatar’ also lost first place in its eighth weekend, but in its case it did so by still entering 22.8 million.
For now, ‘Avatar: The Sense of Water’ has a worldwide collection of 2,174 million dollars, so that during the next few days it should snatch ‘Titanic’ the third position in the list of the highest grossing films in history. A separate question is how long he will keep it, since the film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet returns to theaters on February 14…
