HBO He has just made official what everyone already took for granted: ‘Avenue 5’ has been canceled and the sci-fi comedy will not have season 3. Months ago it was dropped that the chain most likely would not go ahead with it, but it has not announced it until now.
could be seen coming
Not that ‘Avenue 5’ was ever very popular with audiences, but what really complicated everything for her was the pandemic. Renewed for a second season in February 2020, then filming didn’t start until well into 2021, leading to almost three years between the first and second installments. By then, the contract with the actors had already expired and everything indicates that this was the beginning of the end for the series created by Armando Iannucci.
Of course, the cancellation of ‘Avenue 5’ does not mean that the professional relationship between Iannucci and HBO comes to an end. They have previously collaborated on ‘Veep’ and will do so again on ‘The Franchise’a superhero series whose pilot episode will be directed by none other than sam mendesfilmmaker responsible for unforgettable titles such as ‘American Beauty’, ‘Skyfall’ or ‘1917’.
‘The Franchise’ promises to be an ironic look at superhero movies and to do so, it will focus on a team trapped in the dysfunctional, crazy and joyous hell of superhero movie sagas. If they finally make it to the end, the question they must face is: is this the new dawn of Hollywood or the last battle of cinema? Is it a dream factory or a chemical plant?
For his part, Hugh Lauriestar of ‘Avenue 5’, signed this week to participate in the third season of ‘Tehran’, the Apple TV+ thriller.
