‘Saint Seiya’ has given rise to all kinds of spin-offs, prequels, sequels, animated series, games… and now also to a live action movie.
Hollywood keeps trying with anime adaptations, and as Netflix’s ‘One Piece’ arrives this spring it opens in Japan.Knights of the Zodiac’a remake as an origin movie focused on Seiya.
New beginning with a superhero movie aftertaste
Its international release date has not been confirmed yet, but ‘Knights of the Zodiac’ has set its release date in Japan for the next 28th of April. In fact, for its launch in the country, it has been renamed as ‘Saint Seiya The Beginning’, because it seems that the intention is to launch a complete saga to gradually adapt the plot of the manga.
‘Knights of the Zodiac’ is a co-production between Toei and Sony Pictureswith Thomas Baginski, executive producer of ‘The Witcher’, as director. The project would serve to introduce us to Seiya and her past, as well as all the initial lore of ‘Saint Seiya’… although it seems that some changes and new characters have already fallen.
We will have to wait and see how the experiment has turned out, but for now the first trailers give a certain aftertaste of a superhero or American action movie. But not too much has been revealed yet to see how faithful they will be to Masami Kurumada’s mangaso it’s time to take the trailers with tweezers and be patient.
The international premiere of ‘Knights of the Zodiac’ is yet to be confirmed‘, but the film is expected to hit theaters during 2023.
