Cypresses, wheat fields, olive trees and vineyards make up the landscapes of Italian Tuscany. However, it is not necessary to cross borders to enjoy them… Just two hours from Barcelona, we have the Empordà in our country, a perfect getaway for spring and summer and which does not lack medieval charm or sea Mediterranean on its coastline with the Costa Brava.
However, although many people come to the Empordà attracted by its beaches, it is upon discovering its charming interior that one understands that one is before Spanish Tuscany.
To enjoy the Empordà, the first thing is to know that it is divided into Alt Empordà and Baix Empordà. They are two different regions but they have many links.
Making its way between fishing villages and peasants, this area hides inland villages in which it seems that time stopped in the Middle Ages, with spectacular cobblestones like the ones we can find in Pals or La Bisbal d’Empordà.
On the coastal side, towns like the famous Cadaqués, Roses or Calella de Palafrugell are the maritime legacy dyed in white and indigo that mixes with the blue of the sea and the sky. Very pretty because they keep a aesthetics of fishing villages of yesteryear.
Even with regard to the urban core it is mandatory make a stop in Figueresthe birthplace of Salvador Dalí and where the Dalí Museum is now located, which houses most of his work.
Notwithstanding the Castle of San Fernando or the church of Sant Perewhich have nothing to do with the greatest exponent of surrealism, are also worth a visit.
