Since the announcement of the new Miss Universe regulations, different points of view and opinions have been raised. However, this has also motivated many women to sign up for the contest, regardless of whether they are single, widowed, married, chubby, skinny, short, or tall.
Such is the case of the model plus size Jessi Rodríguez, who finally dared to go after her great dream: to become Miss Universe.
Jessi is a 24-year-old Costa Rican who has always spoken out in favor of body positive and the liberation of the female body. Therefore, she decided to apply to the casting of Miss Universe Costa Rica, with the purpose of putting an end to fatphobia and demonstrating that beauty does not depend on a size, and she expressed it in her social networks.
Not only do I seek to represent what I consider beautiful for myself, but also to represent the many women who follow me and who see me as an example. So that they see that I am beyond a body and that I can represent it in a beautiful, special way and with great enjoyment and affection.
In addition to this, she also stressed that having a “non-hegemonic” body, that is, one that “is not accepted by society”, for her, it is of the utmost importance to represent all non-hegemonic bodies and face the struggle social against fatphobia.
In addition, she added that, for a long time, like other women, she has had insecurities related to her body, but indicated that one day she decided to accept, value and love herself as she is, focusing on her qualities to feel happy and proud of herself. same.
I have been choosing differently for some time, I choose to be happy and have peace with my body, I focus on what I like and what makes me the woman I am today; a job that I do every day from the time I get up until I go to bed.
That is why Jessi now intends to break the mold and proudly represent Costa Rican women, since, as she says, “beyond beauty, Costa Rican women are intelligent, hardworking, and fighters,” so she could represent them very well. .
