This week ‘Chainsaw Man’ has finally been released, and in addition to leaving us with a very impressive first chapter that has wonderfully opened the story, it has also finally been seen the opening of the series.
Tatsuki Fujimotothe creator of ‘Chainsaw Man’has made it clear on more than one occasion how much he likes movies, so in passing the opening of his anime has paid tribute to several iconic Hollywood moments.
Eclectic opening and with tons of tributes
Many of these references are not so easy to grasp, but already from Anime News Network and Twitter several people have gone with a vigilant eye and have been locating more and more.
Some of the most obvious pay homage to ‘Pulp Fiction’, ‘No Country for Old Men’, ‘Constantine’, ‘The Big Lebowski’, ‘Attack of the Killer Tomatoes’, ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’, and others even to the world of art and manga. And let’s see, having chainsaws involved, a small reference to ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ could not be missing either.
Another of the references that have been found is this frame similar to one of Gustave Doré’s engravings of ‘The Divine Comedy’, and also to a vignette of ‘Goodbye, Eri’another Fujimoto manga.
And in the background for the psychedelic opening sequence, we have the theme ‘KICK BACK’ by Kenshi Yonezu. Shingo Yamashita, who was already in charge of the openings of ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ and ‘Ranking of Kings’has directed and done the storyboards for the opening of ‘Chainsaw Man’, so we have to thank him for all these references, and those that remain to be discovered.
