Before the resurrection of ‘Dragon Ball’ with the manga of ‘Dragon Ball Super’ of Akira Toriyama and Toyotarofor a very long time the official continuation of the story was ‘Dragon Ball GT’. Over the years, ‘Super’ seems to have eaten it and kicked it out of canon as far as sequels go, but it looks like maybe ‘GT’ isn’t as out of canon as we thought.
Sequels upon sequels
The Aoriginal nimeHe did not start from any manga and started 10 years after the end of ‘Dragon Ball Z’, with a new group of protagonists made up of a Goku that he had returned to his appearance as a child, and some trunks and bread more grown up. Although he started off on the right foot, as the series progressed things went downhill and he has become the ugly child of the franchise that many do not want to remember.
And yet, he still has a group of very loyal fans and every few times he returns the eternal debate about whether ‘Dragon Ball GT’ is official or not. We still don’t have a completely sure answer, but the truth is that the anime series is included in the official ‘Dragon Ball’ timeline.
During the 2017 Budosai Tenkaichi event, a complete guide was shown with a timeline that began with the first ‘Dragon Ball’ anime, went through ‘Dragon Ball Z’ and ‘Dragon Ball Super’ and also included the events of ‘Dragon Ball GT’.

In theory that official chronology only included the canon material for the franchise, and indeed includes information, character designs, and even the ‘Dragon Ball GT’ logo. It is not the only time that the original series is being included in the chronologies, because it has also appeared in several exhibitions and encyclopedias.
Many fans do not consider ‘Dragon Ball GT‘ official because Toriyama was not involved in it, but the truth is that for now ‘Dragon Ball Super’ has not kicked her out of the canon at all. There’s still quite a bit left in the timeline to get to these events, so we wouldn’t have to rule out that during the manga series at some point we’ll have certain events that end up connecting the two series.
