It seems incredible but nine months have passed since the first time we saw the teaser for ‘The Idol’. By then we were expected to see the new series of Sam Levinson (‘Euphoria’), The Weeknd and Reza Fahim by the end of 2022. However, the nightmare in its production led it to delay it sine die… until now.
HBO has announced that it will premiere the first episode of ‘The Idol’ on June 4, in this way it will be the series that replaces ‘Succession’ (and ‘Barry’) on Sunday nights on the channel. In addition, we already have a new teaser trailer with what awaits us.
The series revolves around Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp), who after a nervous breakdown on her last tour, is ready to reclaim the title of sexiest pop star. His passions will be ignited by Tedros (Abel “The Weeknd” Resfayer), a nightclub businessman with a sordid past.
nightmare on set
As we said before, ‘The Idol’ is probably the most controversial series of all that HBO has had at hand in the recent past, when it entered a kind of nightmare in front of and behind the cameras that was first forged in the resignation of its director Amy Seimetz due to creative differences.
At that time it was commented that The Weeknd he was not amused by the “female” direction that he had taken over the series (consisting of six episodes) and this led to further involvement on the part of Levinson, who decided to rewrite and redirect much of the series.
A highly controversial decision, especially by those involved in the filming who began to complain about both the toxic environment and the sexual and rape content in the series. Content that we will see in June, although those attending the Cannes Film Festival will be able to satisfy their curiosity in the coming weeks.
