After the premiere of the irregular ‘Covenant’ in 2017, and with the permission of the digital miniseries based on the magnificent video game subtitled ‘Isolation’ —perhaps the best of the franchise in years—, the ‘Alien’ saga has passed the last five years giving blind sticks waiting for a project that puts the xenomorph back in the place it deserves within the genre of horror and science fiction.
After the fifth numbered film installment, which would work as a direct sequel to ‘Aliens’ under the direction of Neill Blomkamp, ended up falling on deaf ears, the license, now in the hands of Disney, has been looking for a way to continue, and not it was not until December 2020 that he found his way.
return of the xenomorph
At that time, within the framework of Disney Investor Days, it was confirmed that Noah Hawley —’Fargo’— was working on a prequel series. Later we learned that it would be set at the end of the 21st century, that it would not start shooting until 2023 and, most importantly, that there was also a new movie in the works. captained by Fede Álvarezdirector of the fantastic ‘Don’t Breathe’ and the brutal remake of ‘Infernal Possession’.
Now, to calm the fandom, it has emerged that this new ‘Alien’ is not only still alive and kicking, but has already found its main candidate for the leading role. This will be none other than Cailee Spaeny, whom we have been able to see in titles such as ‘The Craft: Legacy’, ‘Pacific Rim Insurrection’ or ‘Bad Times at the Royale’and that will give life to a character that, for the moment, continues to be unknown.
Unfortunately, and as it happened with ‘Predator: The prey’, everything seems to indicate that Fede Álvarez’s ‘Alien’ will end up relegated to the small screen, since its launch in the United States will take place on the Hulu platform. This, in the absence of confirmation, would mean that in Spanish territory we would see it on Disney +. Less gives a stone.
