The rain pattering on the windows. The cold creeping into the living room and the pleasure of sheltering in the warmest blanket you have with your best friend, ready to enjoy a long conversation, some popcorn and a series. The chill plan for my weekend is one of those that I would repeat over and over again without fear of ever getting bored.
The bad thing is that agreeing with my best friend is not always easy. Not even when we talk about the most handsome men in the world. Much less when deciding what to see in the meantime (so much) content. She’s a fan of horror, I’m a fan of romantic comedies. There is no easy middle ground, even if we search between the best Netflix seriesbut we have found one that It has captivated both of us so much that our favorite genre has not mattered much.
1899the perfect series for a weekend
The creators of Darkthat wonderful series unfairly forgotten until its third season, return with 1899a dark, intriguing, confusing, absorbing and mysterious story that has given us goosebumps and made us jump on the couch.
The synopsis is this: “A steamship transports emigrants to America. The passengers, coming from various European countries, share hopes and dreams for the new century and their future abroad. But when they discover another migrant ship adrift on the high seas, their journey takes an unexpected turn. What they find on board will turn their journey to the promised land into a terrifying nightmare.”
And be careful, look at the trailer again. Hit play and see who says they have paid for a ticket that will get them to New York in seven days. Or he looks at the image below, the one of the young man in the white suit.
Miguel Bernardeau, who is weeks away from opening his series with Aitana in Disney+. None of us knew and I admit it, it was not a bad surprise. No way. Along with him, Aneurin Barnard, Emily Beecham and Andreas Pietschmann, among others, complete the broad cast of 1899.

This series is one of those series that catches easily, as if we were mosquitoes in a spider web. With no possibility of escape once you fall into their networks. It is a science fiction tale with touches of horror set in a bygone era that it has cost between little and nothing to devour almost without realizing it.
It has slipped into the top of the most watched on Netflix this week and with good reason, because it is one of those series that breaks with what the platform usually proposes and whose dark, gloomy and mysterious aura is appreciated among so many Christmas cakes that are released these days.
One last recommendation: much better if you see 1899 in original version (in Espinof they already warned us that details are lost in the dubbing).
