For three 3 hours they swam to finally reach their destination, saving the lives of the rest of the people who were traveling in the boat. Once in Greece, the Mardinis managed to reach Germany and eventually managed to reunite with their parents.
In 2016, one of the sisters, Yusra fulfilled her dream and was part of the Refugee Olympians team, represented by the Olympic flag at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
