‘Super Mario Bros: The Movie’ has finally broken the curse of video game adaptations that hit theaters big time, and although there are differing opinions about how good or bad it is, what no one can deny is that it is already a one of the greatest animated films in history.
It even seems that Nintendo wants to continue expanding the franchise with more adaptations, but meanwhile what is already a reality is a different take on the ‘Super Mario Bros.’ movie… but unfortunately it will be difficult to see.
“One-of-a-kind” script
Sometimes there are small changes to movies depending on what country it’s being released in, and Pixar refines these details often to better connect with their audiences. But it seems that with ‘Super Mario Bros: The Movie‘, directly instead of adapting, they went a little further.
Shigeru Miyamotothe creator of Super Mario, has revealed that the film does in fact have a “unique” script for its Japanese version.
“Since we created this movie in Japan and the United States at the same time, we thought we should do a Japanese version as well,” Miyamoto said. “When we decided to make this film, we talked from the beginning about creating a unique Japanese script. Even if we were shown the script in English, it would be difficult to understand some more subtle nuances.”
So instead of an English to Japanese translation (as is often done), The script in Japanese was directly worked on to connect with the public in the country. Miyamoto has not specified if they are very big changes or just some specific details, but it would not be anything that would affect the general plot of the film. Unless they come out at the last moment with an extra post-credits or some added scene, which shouldn’t surprise us either.
In principle this alternative version It’s exclusive to Japan.although for a limited time it will also be available in select theaters in the United States… In case someone doesn’t catch him an ocean and a half away and wants to give him a try.
