With barely 50 registered inhabitants, it is located in the Sierra del Rincón, in an environment declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. So it can boast of being in one of the most beautiful natural settings in the Community of Madrid. The truth is that it is such a quiet environment and in contact with nature that It seems incredible that it is only an hour and a half from the hustle and bustle of Madrid’s Gran Vía.
The houses made of stone, adobe and oak wood from the meadows that make up this town have hardly undergone any changes in their structure since their construction, which gives La Hiruela an own architectural identity which places it as one of the best preserved towns in the Community of Madrid.
Some of the buildings and traditional elements protected in this place are the pylon, the Flour Mill on the banks of the Jarama River, the Town Hall or the old school. In addition, in La Hiruela we can also enjoy “El Colmenar”, a place with more than 200 years in which the families of the town worked beekeeping.
However, not everything in La Hiruela is steep streets and a rural air loaded with peace and tranquility that invites you to rest. Its extraordinary location allows the most adventurous to go on foot along incredible paths between forests, streams and meadows (in fact, in La Hiruela’s own tourism website we are shown some of their best routes).
