While ‘Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero’ sweeps its arrival in international theaters, the manga is still immersed in its own universe of plots that have already left the anime series far behind.
Each month Toyotaro has been bringing us a new update of the granola sagawhich has arrived right now with a double bombshell: a completely unexpected surprise and the announcement of a break for its cartoonist.
Warning, spoilers for chapter 87 of the ‘Dragon Ball Super’ manga!
Hiatus with no return in sight
The granola bow has come to an end with chapter 87 of the manga with the appearance of Frieza out of nowhere in a new form: black frieza. The (quite deservedly) calling himself “Evil Emperor” has spent 10 years training in “another dimension” to achieve this new form, which seems much more powerful than Golden Frieza’s.
The appearance of black friezawhich has taken Goku and Vegeta out of the way without much effort, has completely changed the game board, so everything indicates that the break in the manga is to prepare the new narrative arc.
Frieza’s return certainly poses a very different new arc and everything indicates that it will be the next great villain of the manga serieswith which we would have a very powerful sega ahead where Goku and company will have to train very hard to catch up to their level.
Some rumors also suggest that the publication of ‘Dragon Ball Super’ could be resumed in October, with only a month without a new chapter, but there is nothing confirmed from the publisher and we may have several months ahead without updates.
Akira Toriyama has recently retired as a supervisor and scriptwriter for the manga, so it also makes sense that Toyotaro need a little more time to polish the details for the new chapters. Even so, more and more manga series are opting for small breaks between arcs so that the authors can recharge their batteries, and after what the Granolah saga has lasted, Toyotaro has the rest he deserves.
