There is less to go until The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is released and the showrunner reveals some interesting details.
The Middle Earth he created J. R. R. Tolkien come back strong thanks to the series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power which will premiere in Amazon Prime Video. Now the showrunner patrick mckay reveals that the goal was not to make references to modern politics or current world situation, but to have made a timeless story.
This explains it patrick mckay in TotalFilm:
“This was one of Tolkien’s points of debate with CS Lewis, his friend and colleague. It was very important that what he was creating was not an allegory. He was not commenting on historical events of his time or another time. He was not trying to convey a message that spoke of contemporary politics. He wanted to create a myth that was timeless and that was ‘applicable’, that was his word, applicable through the ages”.
“Each of the choices that we have made in each moment of making this program has been to be faithful to that aspiration, because that is what we want as viewers. We don’t want to adapt the material in a way that might seem outdated. We aspire to be timeless. That’s why these books still speak to people so much, because so much of what’s in them hasn’t aged a day. And we aspire to do the same. And I think we feel that once people watch the show and see the stories and the characters and the worlds in context, they’re going to feel the same way.”
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will be released on September 2, 2022 in Amazon Prime Video. This first season consists of 8 episodes that will be released on Fridays, week by week.
