The idea of a sequel to ‘Gladiator’ seemed like nonsense until not long ago. In fact, the first idea to make it was totally pointing in that direction, but it seems that Ridley Scott finally found a proposal to your liking and now a definitive step has just been taken so that ‘Gladiators 2’ be a reality.
From World of Reel they confirm that the negotiations so that filming of the long-awaited sequel takes place in Morocco they have come to fruition. For now, the team is finalizing the pre-production work with the aim of recording starting in May 2023.
The truth is that everything fits within what had been announced at the time, since Scott ended his commitment to ‘Napoleon’ a long time ago, precisely the film that represented his professional reunion with joaquin phoenix. Already at the time it was said that ‘Gladiator 2’ would come right after and that is just what is going to happen.
The latest version of the ‘Gladiator 2’ script is written by Peter Craig. a novelist turned screenwriter who has participated in titles such as ‘The Town (City of thieves)’ or ‘The Batman’. His story will revolve around Lucius, the nephew of Commodus (Phoenix) who in the film released in 2000 was played by Spencer Treat Clark. It is not clear if he will also do it here.
For his part, Scott, who is already 85 years old, will repeat behind the cameras, while the director of photography will deal with Dariusz Wolskywho has performed that task for the “Blade Runner” director since they first collaborated in 2012 with “Prometheus.”
