The last great Netflix phenomenon is a Johnny Depp movie that nobody wanted to release in theaters

The race of Johnny Depp suffered a perhaps irreparable blow from the accusations of mistreatment by Amber Heard which took them to court. That was one of the reasons why no one wanted to release it in theaters at the time. ‘City of Lies’a film that is now sweeping Netflix, where it has been among the most watched on the platform in Spain for several days.

Adaptation of Randall Sullivan’s book based on the murders of Tupac Shakur and The Notorious BIG‘City of Lies’ is a thriller led by Depp and Forest Whitaker giving life to a retired police officer and a journalist who decide to investigate everything that surrounds the death of both rappers.

Quite powerful material that perhaps did not fall into the hands of the most suitable director to explore it in depth, since Brad Furman He has titles in his filmography that aren’t bad, but they don’t drive me crazy either. Perhaps ‘The Innocent’ is the most esteemed, but more for the good work of Matthew McConaughey at the head of a solvent cast than for something else, something similar happening, but a couple of steps below, with ‘The Infiltrator’.

However, that does not explain that ‘City of Lies’ It was barely released theatrically in a handful of countries, being in Italy where it worked best. Here we did not have that luck -at the time it came to Movistar + and then disappeared for a while-, which led to it going completely unnoticed in our country, where it has not been published in physical format either. Now you have a good opportunity on Netflix to discover on your own if it’s worth it in a very comfortable way.
