Netflix He has been betting on anime for some time now and releasing a few movies and series a year… although you never know when one will surprise you.
He had already confirmed that the anime was underway, but just a month before launching it on the Netflix platform, he has revealed when we will be able to see it.Ooku: The Inner Chambers’a series set in an alternative feudal Japan that promises a lot of drama.
Historical fiction in an Edo period that never was
The premise of ‘Ooku: The Inner Chambers’ focuses on a timeline in which a strange plague affects only men, with which there has been a great reduction in the male population. So over time Japan has become a matriarchy and the social structure has completely changed, with women holding positions of power that were previously off limits. And the most powerful woman of all is the shogun, who maintains a huge shouldered harem known as “Ohoku.”
‘Ooku: The Inner Chambers’ will adapt the manga of Fumi Yoshinaga and it seems that it will have touches of historical fiction, romance and a small point of science fiction, by placing itself in an alternative line. There has already been a film adaptation and a live action series, but this is the first time the manga has been adapted to anime.
The anime will premiere on Netflix on June 29, and although the number of episodes has not yet been confirmed, Netflix series are usually around 12 chapters. On the other hand, Yoshinaga’s manga closed in 2020 with 19 volumes, so there is plenty of material to get chicha out of.
Studio Deenthe studio of ‘Sasaki to Miyano’ and ‘Junji Ito Maniac’ has taken over the series, with Noriyuki Abe (director of ‘Bleach’ and ‘Yu Yu Hakusho’) leading the project. Abe is a heavyweight, and the trailer looks quite interesting on a visual level, now let’s see how the story of ‘Ooku: The Inner Chambers’ works in anime.
