The Rise of The House of Gucci: How It Was Made:
The actor Jared Leto, who plays Paolo Gucci, states that this film is about the power of a family. But behind that name there is greed and betrayal, adds Salma Hayek. To this, Lady Gaga (Patricia Reggiani) comments that it is the story of a woman desperate to fit in.
For his part, director and producer Ridley Scott explains that the film is based on Sara Ford’s book, which his wife told him about 20 years ago. They waited until they found the perfect script, which came from co-writer Roberto Bentivegna, which speaks to the Shakespearean nature of the story. The cast adds that the story surprised them, because the Guccis were just one big, tight-knit Italian family, who were like Italian fashion royalty. In addition, they add that the filmmaker understands the emotional dimension of the script, also leaving room for humanity and humor.
Jared Leto talks about his character, feeling identified with some aspects of Paolo, but highlighting how incredible the physical transformation to embody him was for him, having makeup sessions for four hours a day, because he wanted to be unrecognizable. To such an extent that when he approached to talk to Al Pacino before filming, he did not recognize him. The actor himself explains the differences between his character Aldo and his brother Rodolfo, played by Jeremy Irons.
Next, they talk about Ridley Scott’s work, how the entire cast wanted to work with him and how he directs, drawing each frame by hand himself, which is distributed to each member of the team so they know exactly what they want. is going to be shot that day and how, recording with four cameras at the same time.
The lady of the house:
Lady Gaga comments that her character, Patrizia Reggiani, was a woman in a man’s world, being smart and wanting to be taken seriously. The actress was first considered for the film, says producer Giannina Scott, because she is incredibly talented and impressed Ridley Scott in A Star Is Born. The actress and singer dove headfirst into the role and captured the essence of her character. Thus, the entire cast is full of praise for the actress, not only for her performance, but also for the way she is in her real life. To this, the actress adds that she documented everything she could and that she worked for six months with a northern Italian accent, to give her performance credibility.
Styling the House of Gucci:
Ridley Scott assures that he knows how to surround himself with the best team, the best in each department. Costume designer Janty Yates indicates that she met with Ridley early in the film to decide on the color palette. For Lady Gaga she had 54 different outfits for the 54 days of the script that the actress had, where she never wore the same jewelry or the same shoes, nor the same bag. All the costumes were made by hand, having at their disposal the Gucci Archive.
Meanwhile, Maurizio Gucci, played by Adam Driver, wore very classic clothes. Whereas Al Pacino as Aldo wore big striped shirts, big ties, plaid suits, and big pinky rings. For his part, all the clothes Paolo wore were eccentric.
Production designer Arthur Max says there are many locations in the film. They had a chalet in Switzerland, another in Milan, Aldo’s villa on Lake Como, the tannery, and they had to recreate 1970s New York in Milan. For his part, director of photography Dariusz Wolski explains how they found a large generic store and transformed it into the Gucci boutique on Fifth Avenue in New York.
