Between 2022 and 2023 we are getting quite a few surprises with anime that suddenly return and in style. “Birthdays” are the perfect time for series like ‘Kinnikuman’, ‘City Hunter’ or ‘The Rose of Versailles’ to have another turn around, and with the twentieth anniversary of ‘Gintama‘ closer and closer because obviously I also had to play new anime.
catching up
It’s been five years since ‘Gintama: Shirogane no Tamashii-hen’ adapted the last arc of de’s manga. Hideaki Sorachi, and there are too many. So since there is no more material from the main manga, what is coming soon is ‘Gintama: Class 3Z Ginpachi-sensei’ to adapt the light novel of the same name.
The spin-off still does not have a release date and not much more information has been confirmed apart from the fact that BN Pictures is taking care of the animation, but with this first trailer perhaps we can aim for a premiere in late 2023 or early 2024. As the twentieth anniversary of ‘Gintama’ falls in 2026, we can expect more franchise announcements to warm up by then.
‘Gintama’ is famous for spouting well from the rest of the anime on the grid and not leave a puppet with a head… and since these years a fairly large generational change has been taking place, it is time for series like ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ and ‘Spy x Family’ to also catch up with the popular kids of the moment.

‘Gintama: Class 3Z Ginpachi-sensei’ specifically is set in a world where the protagonist is a high school teacher, and the truth is that he is not very good at it. The main ‘Gintama’ anime is set in an alternate feudal Japan where Earth was invaded by aliens. One of the few remaining samurai is Gintoki Sakata, who makes a living with jobs of all kinds and that usually end up being chaos.
