Since I was a child I always identified with being a geek. I liked (and I like) fantasy books like The Lord of the ringsplayed role-playing to investigate mysterious beings from other planets with Cthulhu and enjoyed science fiction movies as much as Rosalía enjoys her favorite potato omelette.
Being a millennial over thirty, it seemed inevitable that Harry Potter would be on my list of things that I love and that obviously make me continue to be a geek over the years. Nothing that bothers me, really, we geeks now dominate the world (explain me but the success of the marvel universe).
I see the entire Harry Potter saga every year since the second part of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, like my little Christmas tradition. I read the books several times, and I have the house full of wands, pictures and merchandising like a good potterhead. Hell, I’ve even dressed up as the evil Beatrix Lestrange and have a tattoo of a snitch… With everything and with that, I still don’t know how I didn’t notice the detail that connects Harry Potter with Fantastic Beasts. Shame on me.
Harry Potter Pack – The Complete Series
Harry Potter’s connection to fantastic animals
The details in the cinema and in the series are not always hidden. There are times when they are seen with the naked eye. the poster of Game of Throneseither what Pixar hid in the guitar of Coconut that even told us the end of the movie without even knowing it, are just a couple of examples. The connection of fantastic animals with the Harry Potter movies, too.
To discover it, we are going to go to a scene from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. It is in that movie that the Weasley brothers give Harry the Marauder’s Map, in this scene. Come on, stop for two minutes and tell me if you see something strange, I’ll leave the video here:
You got it? Go back a few seconds, to the map. The first time she shows herself to Harry after Weasley says “I solemnly swear this is a prank”. Look to the right as they open the map. Look at the names that move in Hogwarts:
I will make you a little more zoom so that you can focus only on the one that interests us:
Yes, Newt Scamander in the Marauder’s Map. the protagonist of fantastic animals walking so pichi through the school with 97 years (age that would have at that moment in history).
We don’t know if he just wanted to visit his old friend Dumbledore for a cup of tea or if he was trying to save some animal at school. Anyway, I’m embarrassed that I didn’t see it until now, but maybe it’s also part of the magic of Harry Potter: Discover new secrets every time we watch the movies.
