He horror movie He leaves us big surprises from time to time, making it clear that the public’s interest in this genre is still very much alive. One of the latest examples of this we have with ‘Smile’, a film that swept the box office after its ingenious promotional campaign and which can be seen from today without additional cost on Amazon Prime Video.
Why is it worth watching?
‘Smile’ is first and foremost a horror film. Here we do not seek to investigate any of the topics proposed Parker Finn, scriptwriter and director of the film, since instead he is more interested in basting together a series of scenes that seek to create fear in the viewer. That also supposes the use of the dreaded jumpscares, but always in an honest and direct way.
In the plot it is very difficult not to remember other films like ‘The Ring’ or ‘It Follows’, but, as I pointed out before, ‘Smile’ always goes straight ahead and prefers to focus on the viewer’s most primary fears in order to create a climate of restlessness that finds a good accommodation in the interpretation of Sosie Bacon. In this way, the emotional impacts to which Finn subjects his protagonist effectively extends to the reactions of the public, as long as one does not approach this film from cynicism.
In my case, its viewing was marred by the unfortunate behavior of another person in the room during the final stretch of the film, so I will surely take advantage of its arrival on Prime Video to give it another chance without anyone bothering me. And if you still have it pending, I recommend you give it a try, which may not be a great movie, but it is. more than fulfills what it promises.
By the way, the sequel It’s officially underway, and Finn has promised that it will be very different.
