Paul Allenwho was one of the founders of Microsoft and who died in 2018, was back in the news a few hours ago after it was announced that it was put up for sale tatoosh, one of two houseboats he owned. The other, known as octopuswas traded, in 2021, for more than $300 million dollars.
Tatoosh, which was considered the leisure yacht of the right hand of Bill Gateswas launched on the market by $90 million dollars and measure 303 feet longwhich places it in the Top 60 largest yachts in the world.
The vessel, which was built in 2000 by the German shipyard Nobiskrug and originally belonged to the telecommunications executive Craig McCawwould have been bought by Allen, in 2021, at around $100 million dollarshowever, this figure is a mere calculation, since the exact amount paid is not certain.
If the estimates are true, the boat would have registered, in these 20 years, a devaluation of 10%, without taking into account the large sum of money they invested last year to recondition it.
An expense of between $9 and $10 million dollars per year should be added to the initial investment for maintenance and staff costs.
What is Tatoosh like inside and out?
It currently has a capacity to accommodate 20 passengers and 31 crew members, thanks to the fact that it has a main cabin and 10 secondary cabins.
It also has an elevator, a kitchen, a dining room, a main room, a movie theater, a beauty salon, a gym, a heated pool, a jacuzzi, a beach club, a diving center, two heliports, with auxiliary boats, with water games, among other luxuries and amenities.
Another point to highlight is that it has armored windows, which guarantees the safety of the crew members at sea.
It is currently moored in Monte Carlo, Monaco and has the advantage that it has always belonged to American tycoons, so there is no risk of seizure by the authorities, as it has never belonged to Russian oligarchs, contrary to what happened with a large part of the vessels of this nature and that have been seized after the outbreak of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
