killing everything
On December 3 it premiered ‘The First Slam Dunk‘ in Japan and so far it has garnered very good reviews both in terms of story and animation. Fans have praised the script by Inoue, who wrote and directed the film, and it even seems to have moved the manga’s most faithful and picky readers.
The biggest surprise seems to have been the animation by Toei Animation and DanLion Animation Studio, because the trailers weren’t quite convincing, but Apparently ‘The First Slam Dunk’ has an impressive finish and well above what was expected. Fans are already hailing it as one of the best sports movies ever, and one that’s certainly worth watching on the big screen.
As for box office, ‘The First Slam Dunk‘ is working very well for Toei, which has had a stellar year between ‘One Piece Film Red’ and ‘Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero’. In fact, it has already surpassed the latter in its first week and has grossed over 1,296 million yen during its first two dayswhich would be equivalent to about 9 million euros.
In those first two days, 847 thousand tickets were sold, which almost doubles the 498,000 tickets sold by ‘Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero’ in the same period.
For now there is nothing definitive about the international premiere of ‘The First Slam Dunk‘, but seeing these very good figures, we will have to cross our fingers and see if during 2023 any distributor is encouraged to bring it to us in theaters, or even directly to streaming.
