When we talk about Javier Fesser, we all imagine the carboy from ‘The miracle of P. Tinto’, the blows from ‘The great adventure of Mortadelo and Filemón’ or those very personal close-ups from ‘Unfortunate Stories’, but the truth is that his film career has also consisted of tearjerker dramas as exciting as ‘Camino’ and somewhat more typical comedies but collected under the umbrella of the “endearing” as ‘Campeones’. In another firm step, Fesser has announced, precisely, that the filming of its sequel has finished.
A privilege
In ‘Campeonex’, which is the title of this second part, Fesser has reunited with the original team from the first. Well, with everyone except, a priori, with Javier Gutiérrez. We will see Jesús Vidal, Sergio Olmos, Gloria Ramos and the rest of the team again, but also new faces. For Fesser, Shooting the film has been “a real privilege”assuring that once again he will mix humor with humanity and tenderness.
The only thing we know about the plot of ‘Campeonex’ is that will have new characters, and that this time Fesser has counted at his side in the script with Athenea Mata, the actress who played Sonia in the first part. Let’s remember that she won three Goya awards (including best film), she was chosen by Spain to represent us at the Oscars and raised four times what she cost, in addition to ensuring an American remake starring Woody Harrelson and directed by Bobby Farrelly that we will see at the beginning of 2023 and is titled, well, ‘Champions’. They have not risked there.
Fesser’s latest, ‘Unfortunate Stories’, which returned to its most classic and recognizable humor, premiered in the middle of a pandemic on Amazon Prime Video and went a bit (unfairly) under the radar, so it stands to reason that the director is trying to get back into the limelight with this sequel. Personally, as long as he recovers some of the beastly humor of the first part but reduce sugarI will end up really delighted.
